Three Tips For Shipping Equipment & Machinery

For companies with little experience doing so, shipping large equipment & heavy machinery can cause all kinds of logistical problems. When shipping these expensive items or outsourcing the packing & shipping process to another company, there are many factors to consider, including cost, shipping speed, safety, and more. In this article, we’ll offer you a few tips on how equipment & machinery should be shipped so that you know what to look for when hiring a third-party packing & shipping company! Here at Extreme Packing Solutions, we pride ourselves on providing our clients with the very best full-service machine moving from start to finish! From organization, to packing and shipping, to turn-key installation, our team will be here to help throughout the whole machinery moving process!

Get Insured

One of the most important things to do when shipping a valuable item of any kind, especially equipment or machinery, is to make sure it is fully insured during the packing, transit, and installation process. While each different kind of equipment has a different monetary value, almost everything that is worth shipping is worth paying the extra costs associated with fully insured shipping services. At Extreme Packing Solutions, our packing and shipping services are always fully insured, meaning there’s no better company to work with to ship your valuable equipment!

Ensure The Packing Materials Are Adequate

Another important factor for shipping equipment & machinery is the packing materials that are used. Depending on the type of equipment, pallets may not be enough to get the items to their destination safely. Instead, you should opt for the materials that are the right fit for the specific machinery you are shipping. At Extreme Packing Solutions, we’ll help you select the custom packaging option that’s right for your items, such as custom-made cushioning, shrink wrap, anti-static wraps, VCI anti-corrosion packaging, and more.

Don’t Use OEM Packaging

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) packaging is typically not sufficient for safely shipping equipment & heavy machinery. The reason for this is that it is typically cheaper for a manufacturer to replace the few items that are damaged during transit to their original destination than pay for adequate packaging for every single piece of equipment that they sell. Rather than using the packaging that your equipment was originally shipped to you in, you should hire a company that will create custom-fit packaging that will ensure the safety of your items during the shipping process.

Does My Business Need A Last-Mile Delivery Service?

Last-mile delivery is the final step of the shipping process, where the item(s) is transported to the end user. Last-mile delivery is often the most challenging and costly step for companies, as they often do not have the staff or capability to deliver shipments efficiently. Last-mile delivery can also account for up to 53% of a business’s shipping costs, according to Business Insider! To avoid the headaches and hassle associated with last-mile delivery, many companies choose to outsource it to other companies who are better equipped to complete the final step of the shipping process for them. If you are considering outsourcing your company’s last-mile delivery process, Extreme Packing Solutions has the knowledge, experience, and equipment necessary to transport your products to their destination safely and efficiently! Our blanket wrap and last mile delivery capabilities include same day delivery, next day delivery, residential pick up & delivery, and more! What Kinds Of Businesses Need Last-Mile Delivery Services?

E-commerce companies that can’t ship their items through standard couriers like USPS, UPS, or FedEx can greatly benefit from outsourcing their last-mile delivery process, which will improve customer satisfaction and reduce shipping costs. Food and beverage distributors often struggle to get their products to their destination quickly and efficiently, a problem that can be resolved by outsourcing last-mile delivery to an experienced shipping/delivery company. What Features Make Custom Crating & Packing Beneficial?

If you need to ship a high-value item that is at risk of being damaged during transit, custom crating & packing is the solution for you! Here at Extreme Packing Solutions, we offer customized crating & packing services for high-value items of all kinds, including art, antiques, household goods, electronics, medical equipment, and other fragile items! Our team will create a custom box or crate with the features mentioned below to ensure that all your items are safe and secure during transportation! There are several features that make custom crating & packing an excellent idea for items of all kinds, some of which we’ll dive deeper into below! If you’re a resident or business looking for a company that offers professional, fully insured packing and shipping services, contact our team at Extreme Packing Solutions or request a free estimate today!

Custom-Made Cushioning

One of the key features of a custom box or crate is the specialized cushioning inside the package that will keep your item(s) completely secure during transit. This custom-made cushioning will minimize vibrations and ensure that your item doesn’t come in contact with walls or other items that could potentially damage it during shipment. The custom-made cushioning in a box or crate can be made from one or more materials depending on what the item is, including corrugated cardboard, polyurethane foam, and more.

Shrink Wrap

Shrink wrap is another method for securing and protecting an item during shipment! A plastic material is laid over the items, then heated up, making it shrink down and form a nearly airtight barrier. Shrink wrap can be used to secure an item to a pallet or crate for shipment and is also a great way to protect the item if it is going into storage.

Anti-Static Wraps

Anti-static bubble wrap is a solution for two problems: the bubble wrap protects your items from bumps and damage during transit, and its anti-static properties prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging electronic items. In addition to bubble wrap, there are other anti-static packaging materials that can be used, like foam and shrink wrap.

VCI Anti Corrosion Packaging

VCI Anti Corrosion Packaging protects electronics and other metal items from being damaged by moisture. VCI bags are commonly used when something is being shipped via an ocean carrier, but they can also be used as an extra safety precaution for high-value items that are being shipped by ground or air transport.

Regulations For Shipping Crates Internationally

Shipping your items in crates is one of the best ways to ensure that items will arrive at their destination safely, especially when they are being shipped long distances. If you’re looking to crate and ship an item internationally, you should be aware that there are a multitude of regulations and legalities required to do so, especially when it comes to moving wooden crates across international borders. Many of these rules and regulations for wooden crates are associated with ISPM 15 Stamps, also known as “Bug Stamps”. In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know about regulations and legalities for shipping items in wooden crates to other countries!

What Is An ISPM 15 Stamp?

In order to reap the full benefits of using a crate to secure your goods when shipping internationally, it’s important to ensure that the wooden crates you’re using comply with the destination country’s regulations. Some of the more straightforward regulations are that the crate needs to remain intact from the source to the final destination point, and the crate needs to have an ISPM 15 stamp or certification. An ISPM 15 stamp or “bug stamp” certifies that the wooden crate is free from insects, pests, and infestation.

Why Do Wooden Crates Need ISPM 15 Stamps?

The main purpose of an ISPM 15 stamp is to prevent the spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems in the shipment’s destination country. Without an ISPM 15 or bug stamp, your shipment containing crates or other wooden materials may be refused at customs, causing headaches and big problems for you or your business.

How To Comply With Foreign Countries Wooden Crate Regulations

If you or your business does not have extensive experience shipping wooden crates and other cargo internationally, one of the best ways to comply with all the regulations & legalities is to work with an expert! Benefits Of Custom Crating For Valuable Shipments

Custom crating ensures safety and security for your valuable items during the transportation process! At Extreme Packing Solutions, our in-house custom crating and packing software allows us to make the perfect-sized wooden crate, box, or container needed for your valuable items. Custom-made crating for your items is the best possible packaging method because it will prevent your shipment from being damaged. Along with protection from falls, bumps, water damage, and more, custom crating also protects its contents from other goods and packages that are being shipped with it. If other items are improperly packed, they can move during transit and cause damage to your valuable shipment; something that custom crating will prevent! Custom crates are designed specifically for the exact specifications of your items, making them ideal for shipments that won’t fit in a standard crate or for high-value items. When you use custom crating, your items will be padded and strapped down, so they are held in place throughout the shipping process. Custom crating is the perfect solution for shipping machinery, art, fragile items, and other oversized or valuable cargo!

Custom Crating For International Shipping

Extreme Packing Solutions offers custom crating & packing services for both domestic and international shipping! One of the critical factors to consider when shipping internationally is the method of transportation: air or ocean freight. If you’re planning to ship your items via ocean freight, you’ll have a higher risk of moisture affecting your shipment. Shipping via ocean freights can also increase the risk of your goods shifting & moving while in transit, potentially resulting in damage to your valuable items. Custom crating can prevent these two significant factors from affecting the safety of your valuable items while shipping internationally! When shipping internationally, Extreme Packing Solutions will also act as the intermediary between you and your shipment’s destination country, eliminating any issues related to the importation laws and regulations, saving you countless amounts of time and headaches!

What is the Difference Between a Pallet & a Skid?

If you’re not extremely familiar with the packing and shipping industry, you may be confused about the difference between a pallet and a skid. While they are similar, pallets & skids have some key differences. Pallets and skids are better suited for different jobs, meaning it’s important to make sure that you or your shipping company is using the proper wood packaging for your application. Below, we’ll go over what the differences are between pallets & skids and why they matter!

Pallets

The biggest difference between pallets and skids are their deck boards. Deck boards are the surfaces that the load rests on, and are typically made from wooden planks. Pallets have both bottom and top deck boards. These deck boards can be reinforced with special screws and run all the way to the edge of the pallet or overhang it, making a winged pallet. The top deck boards on a pallet are used to support the goods that it is supporting, while the bottom deck boards are used so that pallets can be stacked on top of each other. Some pallets have deck boards that touch one another, forming a continuous surface, while the majority of pallets have slots between the boards. Because pallets have bottom deck boards, they are more stable than skids from an engineering perspective and are better for loading & unloading using a forklift.

Skids

Unlike pallets, skids only have top deck boards. The boards that support the deck boards are called stringers or runners. These runners make it easier to push or pull a skid compared to a pallet with bottom deck boards. Skids are often used as a permanent foundation for heavy machinery, as they keep the machinery off the ground and are unlikely to be moved via forklift due to the weight of the load. Unless you’re storing heavy machinery or have other specific requirements that work better with a skid, pallets are typically the better choice to transport and store your products.

Last mile delivery is the final step of the delivery process when a shipment is delivered to its final destination. How To Safely Ship Computers & Other Valuable Electronics

Even though most people spend hours every single day using computers, smartphones, and other expensive electronics, it can still be hard for us to comprehend all the little parts and intricacies that make up these devices. These fragile components make shipping computers and other electronics so risky without the help of a professional. Whether you’re looking to ship a computer, laptop, modem, or any other kind of valuable electronic, the best practice for shipping is generally the same concept. In this article, we’ll go over some tips on how you can safely & securely ship your valuable electronic equipment!

Consider The Item’s Fragility & Risks

The first step when determining the best course of action for shipping a computer or other electronic item is to consider how fragile it is and what parts are at risk of breaking during transit. Electronics can be damaged in two ways while being shipped: physical damage & environmental damage. Physical damage happens when a physical piece of the electronic becomes broken. For example, something snapping off, cracking, or falling apart during the shipping process would be considered physical damage. Environmental damage happens when an electronic item becomes broken due to the conditions it is exposed to during transit. For example, an item breaking because it gets too hot or cold, is exposed to humidity, or gets wet would be considered environmental damage. When shipping a valuable computer or other type of electronic, be sure that you or your carrier is doing everything possible to prevent both kinds of damage.

Select The Appropriate Packaging Or Crating

The next step in the shipping process for a computer or other valuable electronic is to select the proper packaging. Depending on the size and type of item, the correct packaging may be anything from a padded cardboard box to a crate or pallet. Whatever packaging you choose, be sure that the item is totally secure and does not have any wiggle room that allows it to move around during transit. This same idea applies to the carrier of your computer or electronic device: the package itself should be tightly secured in place inside the vehicle so that there is no chance it can move around and be damaged.

Pay For Insurance

Finally, you should always opt for insurance when shipping a valuable item, whether it be a computer, antique, piece of art, or anything else that has monetary value. Insurance will ensure that if your package does become lost or damaged, you’ll at least be compensated for the item’s value.
